Colorado insomnia referrals

Colorado Sleep Center & Counseling provides Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) for adults with persistent sleep problems. We welcome referrals from family medicine, internal medicine, psychiatry, behavioral health and sleep medicine practices across Colorado.

What CBT-I offers your patient

  • An individual sleep plan: Treatment uses the patient’s sleep diary to address irregular sleep patterns and time spent awake in bed.
  • A behavioral approach: CBT-I helps patients improve sleep without adding medication. Their prescribing provider manages any existing prescriptions.
  • Tools for continued progress: Patients practice techniques they can use after the weekly sessions finish.

Choosing Colorado Sleep Center

  • CBT-I expertise: Clinicians are licensed in Colorado and trained in behavioral treatment for insomnia.
  • Help understanding costs: We verify insurance and explain the patient’s expected share before the evaluation.
  • A defined commitment: The core treatment typically lasts six to eight weeks, with appointments usually held weekly.

Specialized insomnia care that complements therapy

Your patient can keep working with their therapist while receiving CBT-I. Sleep becomes the focus of a separate, structured treatment plan.

  • The clinician sets a sleep schedule using the patient’s own daily records.
  • Sessions address habits and worries that make bedtime difficult.
  • The final phase helps the patient plan for future periods of poor sleep.

Arrange a referral to our practice

Provide the patient’s full name, date of birth and a phone number or email address. Include relevant history if available. Our intake team will reach out to arrange an evaluation; no signed order or referral form is required.

Patients do not need to wait for a referral to schedule with us.

Which patients should be referred?

Our adult insomnia service may help patients with:

  • Ongoing difficulty falling asleep or getting back to sleep after waking.
  • Sleep problems that persist despite care for anxiety, low mood or sleep apnea.
  • A preference for a behavioral treatment instead of additional sleep medication.

Insomnia often occurs alongside sleep apnea. We treat insomnia and coordinate with partner providers for any apnea care the patient needs.

Evaluation and treatment in Colorado

The evaluation reviews sleep history, medications, work schedules and other conditions that may affect sleep. Patients then keep a daily sleep diary in our app. Over six to eight weeks, the clinician adjusts their sleep schedule, addresses sleep-related worry and develops a plan for maintaining improvements.

Most Colorado patients have video appointments with a clinician licensed in the state. A limited number of clinicians also meet patients in person at the Denver office; booking staff confirm availability. Each appointment requires the patient to be physically in Colorado.

Use the Insomnia Severity Index

This seven-question form covers sleep symptoms over the past two weeks. Answer all the questions to calculate an Insomnia Severity Index score from 0 to 28.

For the first three questions, please rate the current (last 2 weeks) severity of your insomnia problem(s):

1. Difficulty falling asleep
2. Difficulty staying asleep
3. Problem waking up too early
4. How satisfied/dissatisfied are you with your current sleep pattern?
5. How noticeable to others do you think your sleep problem is in terms of impairing the quality of your life?
6. How worried/distressed are you about your current sleep problem?
7. To what extent do you consider your sleep problem to interfere with your daily functioning (e.g., daytime fatigue, mood, ability to function at work or with daily chores, concentration, memory) currently?

The ISI is a screening measure rather than a diagnosis. A licensed clinician can review the total with you and assess what may be contributing to your symptoms.
